NORMANS ALERT: State Wage Case Decision 2024

Employers should be aware of increases to minimum entitlements for local government employees that will come into effect backdated from 1 July 2024.

Norman Waterhouse Lawyers represented the Local Government Association of South Australia and the Corporation of the City of Adelaide in the State Wage Case 2024.

In the decision handed down on 15 November 2024, the South Australian Employment Tribunal increased the Minimum Standard for Remuneration by 3.75% to $932.50.

Further changes include:

  • An increase to minimum rates within state awards by 3.75%;
  • An increase in the minimum rates for juniors, trainees and other employees by 3.75%;
  • An increase in the State Minimum Award Wage to $932.50 per week;
  • An increase in the minimum rate for supported wages to $107.04 per week.

This alert serves as a reminder to employers to ensure that employees are paid in accordance with their applicable minimum entitlements from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2024.

It is particularly important that councils whose wage rates in their enterprise agreements are linked to the annual State Wage Case take note of this decision and update their pay rates accordingly.
