Joanna advises councils and other statutory authorities in all aspects of planning and environmental law under the Development Act 1993, including: development assessment; land division; the interpretation of development plans and the building rules; enforcement options, obligations and strategies; and drafting deeds, agreements and other like documents to give effect to agreements reached by councils with third parties. She also provides advice in relation to the transition to the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.

Joanna appears regularly on behalf of council clients in the Environment, Resources and Development Court on all matters within the Court’s jurisdiction, including planning appeals, reviews, enforcement proceedings and prosecutions.

Joanna routinely presents training and educational seminars to councils and industry groups on all range of matters relating to planning and environmental law, including planning reform, significant and regulated trees, Section 7 searches and enforcement.

Joanna completed a degree in civil and environmental engineering together with her degree in law and maintains a strong interest in this area. Joanna is also a board member of the Australian Institute of Urban Studies – SA, a forum through which she enjoys engaging in rich debate about all aspects of urban life in South Australia.
